“Georgian Development Platform” (GeoDP) held a meeting with the representatives of the local government of Ozurgeti municipality within the project – “Supporting partner municipalities to effectively conduct participatory budgeting by FY2024”.
GeoDP chairman and project manager, Tengiz Shergelashvili, introduced the project to the representatives of the municipality, the purpose of which is to improve and strengthen the practice of participatory budgeting in municipalities. The conversation touched on the events and activities planned by the project.
The representatives of the municipality spoke about the practical experience they have gained during the implementation of participatory budgeting in the past years. According to them, two projects were implemented last year, in which the involvement of the population was particularly high. They emphasized the fact that the locals especially care about the infrastructure projects that were implemented with their participation. Considering this practice, the local government welcomes the project, which will serve to improve the practice of participatory budgeting, and expressed its full readiness for support.
Nana Tavdumadze, who is the head of office of Ozurgeti Municipality Council, and the contact person of the local program of “Open Governance – Partnership” in Ozurgeti, was appointed as project coordinator by the municipality to facilitate the implementation of the project. He also has extensive experience in participating in various projects and programs. Among them, he was the director of the European Union project – “Participatory principles for the tourism strategy of Guria”, and the coordinator of the tourist brand – “Possibilities of strengthening tourism in Guria, sharing the experience of the Euroregion BUG”.
